Youth Triathlon Event Policies
Parent/Guardian Picture ID and Youth USAT Membership Card required at Packet Pick-up on Race Day
1. Health of Athletes: Children should be in good physical condition in order to compete in this triathlon event.
2. Age Limits: The upper age limit is 14 years old on or before December 31st. The lower age limit is 8, but parents/guardians should assess the child’s abilities to complete the prescribed course. The SkanRaces Youth Event is conducted to be a positive experience and no child should be entered who is not going to benefit from the experience. Being asked to perform beyond one’s abilities may not be a positive experience. This is NOT a timed event.
3. Transition Area: No parents, guardians or spectators are permitted in the transition area. Volunteers will be present to assist the athletes and to restrict access.
4. Swim Starts: The parent/guardian is responsible for getting the athlete to the event with sufficient time to be ready for his/her swim start. Missing the start time will mean missing the event. The organizers will try to accommodate any unusual circumstances but there is no guarantee that such can be done.
5. Biking: Bikes must be in good working order. All athletes will be required to wear a properly fitting helmet and proper foot wear during the bike portion of the race.
6. Running: Athletes must have proper footwear for the race. All athletes will be required to wear shoes during the running portion of the race.
7. Non-Finishers: Athletes not finishing the event will receive a participant’s ribbon.
8. Disqualification: Athletes that finish the race but do not complete the total distance of the course (e.g., less than the required laps, short-cutting the course) will be disqualified. Unsportsmanlike conduct is also grounds for disqualification. Volunteers will be monitoring the course and transition area for infractions. Disqualified athletes will receive a participation ribbon.
9. Relays: There are no relay teams. Only one athlete is permitted per race number.
10. Refunds: There will be no refunds for any reason. A letter recognizing your charitable donation is available on request.
11. First Aid: Medical personnel will be stationed in the park for anyone needing medical attention. Volunteers on the course will help athletes back to the first aid station if needed.
12. Rain or Shine: The race will continue rain or shine. In the event of a storm, the race will be delayed until it is safe for the athletes to compete. If strong storms the day of the race threaten the athletes’ safety, the race will be cancelled and there will not be any refunds.
13. Participants must wear: Race T-Shirt while racing.
